On October 16th, we covered claims from Spain explaining that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is impressed by Arthur Vermeeren’s profile.

It was also stated the Gunners could offer a higher fee to get ahead of Barcelona to sign the 18-year-old Royal Antwerp player.

Sport claim the La Liga side could ‘lose the player’ to Arsenal. That’s because the latter are ‘considering advancing the operation’ for around €15m in January.

The midfielder has made over 50 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League side, and his age and limited experience could see him as a risky bet.

Despite this, the Gunners are convinced that he would adapt well in their team, which is why it’s stated Vermeeren is on their target list for January. Arsenal have ‘taken a step forward’ with the Belgian’s entourage, and could consider going ahead with the operation.

Barca, down their end, appreciate the teenager and have been following him for a while. At the same time, Sport say they haven’t made any decision on the possibility of securing his services.

With Arsenal advancing for Vermeeren, Sport explain the Catalan club are ‘close to falling out’ in the transfer race.

The player is well aware he’ll receive offers, either in the winter market or next summer, and is ready to take the next step in his career. Whether that’ll be at Arsenal or another club remains to be seen.

Earlier today, Mundo Deportivo stated Royal Antwerp have already warned Barcelona that other clubs are willing to move for Vermeeren.
