PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands star Cody Gakpo has been urged to think about a move to Arsenal ahead of the likes of Manchester United.

That’s according to Ryan Babel, who believes Arsenal would suit the forward better than the other Premier League clubs who are keen on him.

Gakpo is likely to be one of big names of the January transfer window after an impressive start to the season that saw him score nine goals and register 12 assists in 14 games in the Eredivisie for PSV.

He’s carried that form in the World Cup with the Netherlands, scoring three goals in four games as Louis van Gaal’s side have progressed to the quarterfinals.

He has subsequently been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in January, where Manchester United are believed to be keen again after showing an interest early in the summer transfer window.

They are just one of the clubs to have been linked over the last year, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal all having been named as suitors at various points.

Indeed, Arsenal were reported to be keen before anyone else, and Babel believes they could be the perfect fit for the 23-year-old instead of working with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

“I’m just an outsider, of course, but I don’t know if United would be the right team for Cody Gakpo,” he told Soccer News.

“I’d rather think of a team like Arsenal then – or maybe even Liverpool. But I think Arsenal suits his style of play best: all young footballers together, no real star player and a good, young coach who has been a footballer himself

“At United, the atmosphere is different, a bit tense and just… different, and that could influence him.

“But again: of course, I am ‘only’ an outsider, so I judge only by what I see and my own experience in the Premier League. Players have to decide for themselves what they do, but Arsenal would suit him…”
