It seemed everything was going swimmingly between Roma and Arsenal over a potential renewed loan for the Polish goalkeeper.
About 10 days ago, Corriere dello Sport reported everything was pretty much done, with the problems over wages sorted, but Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday disagree.
AS Roma don’t particularly want to pay all of the Arsenal goalkeeper’s wages for the duration of the loan extension, with Szczesny earning more than they can afford, and we could have an update in the coming week.
The Italian newspaper stipulate the Serie A club are waiting on a decision from the Premier League club over the loan renewal this week, as well as one from Paris for Lucas Digne.
The Arsenal goalkeeper was the undisputed starter last season for the third best team in Italy, and has since admitted thoroughly enjoying life in Rome, leading to the extension sought by Roma.
We fully expect something to be arranged considering the little chance of Szczesny getting any game time in London next season with Petr Cech still in goal, and with Arsenal’s wishes to keep hold of him for the future once the Czech retires, a loan is the best deal.
Now for Roma to get their wage wish….
