Arsenal’s summer signing Marquinhos had a pretty decent debut for the club last week, as he had a goal and an assist in the Gunners 2-1 win over FC Zurich in the Europa League.

With the youngster arriving from São Paulo on a €3.5m deal, there haven’t been huge expectations about his immediate impact at the London side.

However, following this first game, it seems he’s now drawing more attention at the club.

Today, Goal Brasil writes that Maquinhos ‘surprised’ Arsenal and ‘anticipated’ the plans they had for him this season.

It’s said Mikel Arteta ‘approved’ the player’s start as he believes the winger ‘exceeded expectations’.

The piece claims that the Gunners’ idea was to only give Marquinhos playing time from January onwards, but now that he impressed the staff, he’s getting more involved than expected.

Still, Goal claims that a loan in January is still being ‘evaluated’, as this could be a way ‘for him to gain experience’.

That, however, will depend on how he does in the first-team in the coming months.

The report adds that Marquinhos is ‘treated like a jewel’ at Arsenal.
