Saint Etienne are pushing to re-sign William Saliba from Arsenal as they seek for a deadline day replacement for Wesley Fofana.

Fofana joined Leicester City in a big-money move last week, leaving the Ligue 1 side with a hole to fill in the centre of their defence.

They now want to fill that with their former star Saliba, who left the club to join Arsenal permanently this summer.

The Gunners signed the highly-rated 19-year-old last summer in a £27m deal but immediately loaned him back for last season.

However, that campaign was blighted by injuries, meaning the year that Arsenal had planned for him, one in which he would continue to get regular game time and develop, did not go as planned.

Thus, they have looked to loan him back out again this summer, with Mikel Arteta making it clear that would be preferential in terms of his development.

Saint Etienne are willing to offer that, with Telefoot Chaine, via journalist Johnny Séverin, stating that they are pushing to get Saliba back on loan.

He’s their ‘priority’ to replace Fofana according to the TV station, and they are now working to get him back before the transfer window closes tonight.
