Mikel Arteta has made it very clear that he’s been pleased with Martin Odegaard and would like to keep the player beyond the current season.

Arsenal agreed a deal with Real Madrid to take the Norwegian in the second half of this campaign. That was on the basis of a loan without any option to extend or to make the move permanent.

Arteta clearly wants that to now be negotiated, and AS say he has a ‘crush’ on the player. Arsenal, therefore, are ready to offer a ‘good deal’ to try and convince Real Madrid into a sale.

Opinions at the Spanish club are split, with some thinking selling Odegaard would be a good way to bring in cash, with Los Blancos, like all other clubs, having a hole in their accounts due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Others very much disagree, and believe Odegaard is one of the players who will be the future of the Madrid club.

A lot will depend on Zinedine Zidane, and should the manager leave this summer then the Arsenal loanee could be completely convinced over a return to his former club.

Given the 22-year-old’s contract expires in 2023, were Real Madrid to consider another loan they’d probably want a renewal first.
