Hertha Berlin youngster Omar Rekik has been given permission by the club to undergo a medical at Arsenal ahead of a move in January.

That’s according to BILD, who say the defender can leave the German club for around £600,000 in the winter window.

They explain that Arsenal, particularly Per Mertesacker, were keen on the youngster in the summer but could not get a deal over the line.

Their interest has not gone away, though, and Mertesacker is now making the ‘next attempt’ to secure the Dutchman’s signature.

That attempt has apparently been successful, with BILD reporting that Rekik has been granted permission to ‘take all medical tests’ ahead of a move.

They say he can leave for ‘around £600,000’, although it’s not made clear if this the price that has been agreed with Arsenal already.

The Gunners, according to the report, are planning to put Rekik into their Under 23 side but it’s claimed he will also be given a chance to train with the senior squad as well.

It’s explained that Rekik had wanted to leave the club after seeing his brother Karim Rekik move to Sevilla in the summer and he’s gotten his wish, with everything apparently set for him to join Mertesacker and Mikel Arteta at the Emirates.
