Earlier this year, we covered several stories from the Brazilian media saying Arsenal were interested in signing Danilo from Palmeiras.

It was even claimed the Gunners submitted a £20m bid to land the midfielder.

Nothing happened back then, but as journalist Jorge Nicola today features a video on the Verdão’s financial situation, there’s a reason why this rumour should soon be back.

The report reveals that in a meeting at Palmeiras’ board last week, people were informed that the club will have to sell at least one player this year, and one of them is the Arsenal target.

“Two names are the most quoted. Danilo, a midfielder who had already been coveted by Arsenal on the last day of the mid-year transfer window. In addition to Wesley, a striker that interests the City Group,” said Nicola.

Palmeiras have just conquered the league title, and with the season ending next weekend, it’s time for them to work on transfers and plan their year of 2023.

That’s why a negotiation could be a lot easier now than back in the summer, when they were still involved in many competitions.

Danilo has indeed shown a lot of potential for Palmeiras in the past couple of years, but truth is that his form has dropped in recent months, and that could be a reason either for European clubs to lose interest, or maybe even for Arsenal to pay a little less than first expected.
