Arsenal maintained their 100% win record in the league by registering a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the Emirates on Wednesday, with Brazilians scoring all three goals.

Gabriel Jesus’s first half goal was cancelled by Douglas Luiz in the 74th minute, before Gabriel Martinelli netted the winner for the Gunners three minutes later.

Injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey forced Mikel Arteta to start Albert Sambi Lokonga alongside Granit Xhaka in midfield against. The situation with the former two could force Arsenal to look to sign a new player in the middle of the pitch.

According to journalist Matheus Leal, the Gunners could target Luiz as they are one of the ‘strong teams’ battling to sign Steven Gerrard’s man.

The north London club have ‘already started negotiations’ with the player and ‘count on’ Edu Gasper as an asset to get the deal over the line.

It’s claimed the attention given by the Arsenal chief ‘seduces’ Luiz, who has less than 12 months left on his contract.

Leal doesn’t mention whether Villa are ready to part ways with Luiz on deadline day.
