Neal Maupay’s goal against Crystal Palace on Monday caught the eye of Premier League fans everywhere, with some special attention from Argentina.

Since the Brighton & Hove Albion player has a double nationality, his chance of playing alongside Lionel Messi and the Albiceleste is now highlighted by the local media.

It’s Olé who features a piece on the striker. They highlight how good he’s been for the Seagulls and explain the reasons why he could feature for the Argentine national team in the future.

“There’s a player who caused a sensation in the Premier League this Monday and has a curious story. Neal Maupay is 25 years old and in the match between Crystal Palace and Brighton he scored a great goal for the visitors. The Frenchman, who arrived at the English club in 2019, has a promising future and within his possibilities is the Argentine National Team,” Olé says.

Olé points out that despite being born in France, Maupay is the son of an Argentine nurse.

He sorted his passport a few years ago, and in recent interviews with the French media, admitted that many South American fans have been contacting him in social media to join the national team.

Despite being part of France’s youth squads, the 25-year-old has never been called up for the first team, and that’s why he’d be allowed to feature for Argentina.

Olé points out how good he’s been for Brighton, making it clear he could be an option for Lionel Scaloni in the future.

“Maupay has shown a high level of late and had two good seasons at Brentford, England’s second division, scoring 41 goals in 95 games. For Brighton he signed in 2019 for almost €20m and so far in his stay he has scored 22 goals and dreams of continuing to add.”
