Antonio Conte has insisted he is not yet ready to return to work following his time at Tottenham, having decided to “give more time” to himself and his family.

The Italian coach has been speaking at a sports festival organised by Gazzetta dello Sport in Trento in Italy, relayed by Sport Italia, regarding his plans for the future.

Conte remains out of work after leaving Tottenham at the end of March this year following a very public falling out with the club, his players and their supporters.

He had been in charge since November 2021, with Tottenham bringing him in, and paying big to do so, in the hope he could bring trophies to the club, as he has done throughout his career.

That never happened, though, as he lasted just 76 matches and managed a points per game ration of 1.78, the lowest he’s managed since his time in chare of Bari from 2007 to 2009.

His time at the club was not quite a disaster but certainly not a success either, with neither he nor Tottenham ultimately happy with how things worked out.

Despite that he finds himself being linked with a potential move to Napoli as pressure rises on Rudi Garcia, but he’s keen to pour cold water on those suggestions.

“When I decided to end my experience at Tottenham, I promised myself to give more time to myself and my family, enjoy some free time,” he said.

“I’m continuing to study. When you’re under stress work, it is difficult to see what is happening around in football.

“I am enjoying my family and a pleasant study which will allow me to be more ready to stand up to levels of excellence. Various transfer rumors have come out, but I reiterate that I need to dedicate time to myself, to my daughter, who is now 16 years old… It’s a life choice.

“For now, I feel like doing this, continuing this path. Then, one day, I’ll start fighting again. And it will be very hard for others.”
