Last month, Sport had multiple reports on Manchester United’s interest in Ansu Fati.

It was claimed the Red Devils are ‘serious’ about the Barcelona winger, and are ready to pay ‘dizzying figures’ after their ‘first offer’ of €100m was turned down.

He has a €170m release clause.

Friday’s edition of Sport states Jorge Mendes has been ‘talking about real interest’ from the Old Trafford club for weeks.

It’s also claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in a position to ‘present an astronomical offer’ to take Fati away from the Camp Nou.

According to the claims, Manchester United, through Mendes, are continuing to make an effort to get Fati and are willing to make an offer in excess of €100m. The super-agent maintains a very good relationship with the player’s family.

The Catalan club fear the Premier League side can snatch the attacker away from them by offering three times more than what he earns now.

The report makes it clear there has only been ‘verbal proposals’, but the Blaugrana are taking it ‘very seriously’. The club’s sporting leaders even approached the board of directors to check if a sale needs to be considered for €100m. This option was dismissed.

Barca want to offer the forward a new deal as ‘soon as possible’, mainly because of the possibility of United ‘returning to the fray’.

Quique Setién’s side are hopeful of putting an end to these rumours through the announcement of contract renewal after the end of this season.

Fati has earned his place in the first team and the Spanish giants want to tie him down to a new deal, which will also include an increased release clause of €300m.

Sport are the only outlet who have been talking about United’s interest in Fati. Mundo Deportivo earlier explained the English side have denied tabling any bids for the youngster.

There’s a possibility that United are being used to put pressure on Barca to get an improved contract. If Sport’s latest report is to be believed, it looks like the plan has worked out well so far.
