Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski saw a move to Southampton fall through this summer because he couldn’t secure a work permit.

That’s according to his agent, who has confirmed a deal fell by the wayside due to his lack of appearances last season.

Southampton were heavily linked with a move for Dragowski earlier this year, with numerous reports in Italy claiming that they were pushing for a deal.

By June it was being suggested that the move was a done deal and set to be concluded, but there has been nothing on the matter since then and Southampton have since signed Gavin Bazunu from Manchester City.

That €14m outlay would suggest they won’t be targeting another goalkeeper this summer and a move for Dragowski is now off the cards.

That’s something the Polish goalkeeper’s agent has confirmed, claiming that work permit rules have seen England, and Southampton, ruled out this summer.

“Southampton have been watching Dragowski for several years, but unfortunately the transfer fell through due to the lack of a work permit,” he told SportoweFakty in Poland, relayed by Fiorentina.it.

“Unfortunately Bart played very little last season and failed to reach 30% of the minutes to get extra points for a work permit.

“Another English club also lodged an appeal, but unfortunately it was rejected.

“A transfer to England this summer is out of the question. However, our goal has always been towards the Premier League.”
