When Chelsea made the signing of Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal this summer, it was well known that they won a little battle for the player.

The striker had been linked to other European sides, including AC Milan, and the Blues managed to lead the race by paying the La Liga side €37m.

This competition is today brought back by Sport Italia, as the outlet features an interview with Epic Sports agent Andrea Pellegatti, who handled Jackson’s transfer to Chelsea.

The representative was asked ‘what happened’ between Milan and the player, and it was explained why it were the Blues who ended up winning that race.

“Milan were one of the many teams to have taken an interest in the player. Nothing particularly concrete: it was an intuition of the Rossoneri, it is true, but at the beginning of the market, before there was more budget related to the sale of Tonali,” Pellegatti told Sport Italia.

“In the end, Chelsea was the club that moved most quickly and decisively. A situation that was unblocked as early as June.”

Playing for Villarreal last season, Jackson had 13 goals and five assists in 38 appearances, and his performances were enough to make him one of the wanted men in the summer window.

Following the move to Chelsea, the striker had one goal in six appearances so far. He was a starter in all of the Blues’ Premier League clashes this season, and has scored in their only win in the league, against Luton Town.
