Manchester City signed Vitor Reis from Palmeiras in the January transfer window.
The Citizens shelled out around £30m for the defender, who has been on the bench in the last two games for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The highly rated 19-year-old’s agent Federico Pastorello has now spoken about how the transfer to Manchester City came about, explaining clubs across Europe were keen on signing Reis.
He told Radio Sportiva, as relayed by InterLive: “It was the most important operation of the session for us. Vitor Reis has a unique talent, he had offers from all over Europe. And I’m honest, Inter also tried.”
Speaking further, Pastorello revealed that the other clubs had great respect for the teenager’s talent but the Italian club were not financially strong enough to sign him.
“They had great respect for him and had thought about taking him, before City came along and the figures rose so much. In Italy we would never spend so much for such a young player.”
The agent’s comments clearly suggest that signing Reis is quite a big deal for Manchester City, who have landed a potential future star.
He had played 22 times for Palmeiras before joining the English champions. While he isn’t hugely experienced, he has a lot of time to improve and Guardiola knows how to do that for younger players.
All in all, it seems like a move that could benefit both parties.
