The Henry Onyekuru situation, very prominent towards the end of the season when the Everton forward made it clear he wouldn’t be returning to Anderlecht, has, over the past few weeks, been relatively quiet.
Currently unable to feature for the Toffees due to work permit issues, the Nigeria international failed to make Gernot Rohr’s squad for the World Cup, meaning there’s little chance of him meeting the criteria for at least another year.
That’s why rumours sending him to Germany were rife, with Borussia Mönchengladbach allegedly interested, but that’s not the only destination available for the 20-year-old.
Speaking to Complete Sports in his home country, the Everton starlet said: “One thing I can tell you for sure is that I won’t be playing in Belgium next season. There are offers from top clubs in Germany, Spain and in England, but that depends on my work permit, we know how difficult that is.”
It seems a bit strange that clubs in the United Kingdom would be interested in Onyekuru considering he can’t even feature for his own club, but perhaps they’re just letting the Toffees know, just in case a summer miracle were to take place.
The forward did however point out the latter of the three would be ‘difficult’ to pull off, so our bet would be a move to either Germany or Spain is the likeliest.
A work permit isn’t impossible for Onyekuru in the UK. In theory, if Everton sold him to another Premier League for a good fee then that fee could be used as reason to help a work permit appeal.
