Currently in Belgium recovering from a knee injury and trying his best to make it back in time for the World Cup, Steven Defour sat down with Le Soir to discuss his time at Standard Liège.
However, towards the end of the interview, the Belgian outlet also had a few questions about the midfielder’s time at Burnley, where things are currently going well, even if he can’t play football until June.
Close to leaving Turf Moor at one point last summer, the 30-year-old was pleased with some of the signings Sean Dyche made, ones that allowed the team to play slightly more expansive football than before, which has served them well, considering they are currently seventh in the Premier League, two points behind Arsenal.
Another aspect he likes about Burnley is the self discipline the club try and instil in their players, doing so in a rather original manner.
Defour explained: “For example, if you don’t respect the rules, like being late, you have to spin some kind of wheel. Each letter represents a forfeit like imitating Elvis Presley, going for a swim in the river close to the stadium, create a boys band or play the crossbar challenge, paying £50 if you miss. It’s in this atmosphere that I was having a good season”.
Clearly, Sean Dyche has managed to create a united dressing room through his unique way of keeping them in check.
Burnley fans certainly aren’t complaining, and nor is Steven Defour, which is a good sign for the future.
