Spending the second half of the season on loan at Bordeaux last year, Mathieu Debuchy is once again attracting interest from France, with Téléfoot and L’Equipe reporting Saint-Etienne are allegedly intrigued.
However, the latter of the two, in their Monday edition, also explain that West Brom are interested in the France international, who believes he still has a chance of making Didier Deschamps squad for Russia in the summer if he gets enough game time in the coming months.
With his national team’s lack of options at right-back, there’s certainly some logic behind that, and the Baggies are said to have ‘already expressed their interest’ to Arsenal in signing the 32-year-old.
The interest from West Brom shouldn’t come as a surprise since Alan Pardew was the one to sign Debuchy at Newcastle in 2013, only to sell him a year and a half later to Arsenal.
With a contract running until next summer, it remains to be seen how much the Gunners will be asking for the veteran defender, but our guess is it won’t be much.
To cap it all off, L’Equipe explain Saint-Etienne’s interest in Debuchy isn’t leaving the right-back ‘indifferent’, meaning that if West Brom do really want him, they’ll have to be quick.
