Sometimes Jose Gimenez looks like he’d put his head in a fight of boots to win the ball, and other times he looks in a need of a good cuddle to hold off the tears.
Once the clear future of Atletico Madrid’s defence, the Uruguayan’s standing under Diego Simeone has gone up and down over the past year or so, and that’s obviously encouraged transfer rumours.
Officially with a contract ending next June, it’s thought there’s a renewal in place which will prevent a free transfer, but that doesn’t mean an exit is off the table.
FC Inter News have an exclusive on Tuesday pushing the Milan club’s interest, but also bring Manchester City and Juventus into the picture.
Gimenez certainly wouldn’t be an automatic first choice if he joined Pep Guardiola’s side, but at 22 years of age may feel it’s worth the fight. If the young defender could progress further under Guardiola then it’s not unreasonable to believe he’d get in the team, or at least get in the team enough to continue progressing.
That wouldn’t be a great deal of difference from what he has now at Atletico, and more may be needed to encourage a move. Inter Milan could have confidence of being able to offer a more senior role than at Manchester City or Juventus.
