Just over a couple of weeks ago, Mundo Deportivo went big with Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona.

It was part of a series of big claims the newspaper made for an attacking addition, with Manchester United’s Antony Martial also getting his own front page story around the same time.

Griezmann is now back, and splashed across the front page of Mundo Deportivo’s Friday edition. The main advance is that Barcelona have now made contact with the player’s environment and received a certain enthusiasm back.

As far as Mundo Deportivo are concerned, Griezmann would fancy a move to the Camp Nou.

‘Powerful’ Manchester United are brought into it, just like last time, and it’s clearly felt there’s still interest from Old Trafford. Real Madrid get a mention too, just to heighten the potential drama around Barcelona’s chase.

The Blaugrana need to work quickly, insist the Catalan newspaper, and take advantage of the will of the player, getting some kind of verbal agreement ahead of an actual transfer next summer. It’s thought Atletico would accept the €100m release clause as a straightforward transfer fee, making the move a little easier.

This would all serve to give Edward Woodward, who perhaps isn’t in the position to simply dismiss it all as Catalan media nonsense without any worry, a kick up the behind.

If Jose Mourinho is expecting Griezmann to arrive at Manchester United next summer then the Portuguese manager’s general feeling of being badly treated, which has lasted the best part of a decade, would skyrocket should the player go to Barcelona.
