Former Tottenham Hotspur scout David Magrone has revealed Leeds United tried to sign England star Harry Kane, but the Spurs manager at the time, Tim Sherwood, blocked the move.

Kane has since gone on to establish himself with the Premier League side, and become one of the best forwards in world football, so it’s fair to have some regret.

Speaking to The World Game, the former Tottenham official confirmed Leeds United were trying to sign Kane: “There was serious consideration among the hierarchy at the club to letting him go to Leeds because he’d been out on loan and had never really set the world on fire. Tim knew he was a Premier League player in the making, and really didn’t want to let him go, even if the chairman (Daniel Levy) possibly did.”

Kane has been in stunning form this season for Tottenham and England. The forward scored another brace last weekend against Liverpool to take his tally to 13 goals already in this campaign.

It would have been some coup if Leeds United had pulled off a deal for the Tottenham star, and the player’s career path could have been very different had he ended up at Elland Road.

Given how things have gone for Kane at Tottenham, the striker is no doubt thrilled he stuck with it during some more difficult seasons earlier on in his career.
