Now is Jordan Amavi’s time.

Moving to Marseille on loan, at least initially, from Aston Villa, Amavi tried to make the best of a difficult summer.

The fullback had been on the verge of a permanent transfer from Aston Villa to Sevilla, but the Spanish club pulled out.

Sevilla quickly released claims to their local media that Amavi had failed a medical, and the behaviour from the Spanish side was questionable to say the least.

Aston Villa then agreed a deal with Marseille, and Amavi was meant to provide back-up to Patrice Evra and eventually replace the former Manchester United player.

However, poor form from Evra has seen Amavi get the place already, and that’s landed him in the France squad, called up after injuries to others.

L’Equipe say Marseille have an ‘almost automatic’ purchase option of €10m, which is already starting to look a potential bargain.

Aston Villa should surely have secured themselves a percentage of any subsequent sell-on profit.
