On Monday, the Portuguese press was pretty much in the dark regarding the cancellation of the friendly between Benfica and Rangers, which was supposed to be played next week.

There’d been much excitement in Portugal about Benfica playing the Ibrox side, partly because of the Pedro Caixinha connection.

Rangers also have Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio, Daniel Candeias and Bruno Alves in their squad, helping the Portuguese media keep an interest.

Meanwhile, news from the Scottish press claimed that Rangers were demanding compensation for the travel expenses they had, since the squad would have been flying on Tuesday.

But now Record comes up with a pretty strong story, saying that the company which should be organising the mini-tournament will not pay a penny to any of the clubs involved.

The outlet claims to have sources close to the process claiming that the report coming from Scottish Sun was ‘fake’, and Rangers never really asked Elite Soccer Entertainment to pay £200k after calling the match off.

Record actually learned the company will be organising other Rangers matches, which means there aren’t any bad feelings between the parties.

They claim the game was called off because Elite Soccer Entertainment didn’t pay Benfica and Rangers the fee for the game in time, which made both clubs give up on playing.

But Record state it actually happened because of a problem with Ticketline, the company responsible for the tickets, which had nothing to do with them.

The priority now would be to give the money back to the two thousand people who had bought tickets for the match, but at least according to Record, there won’t be any issues to be resolved with Caixinha’s Rangers.
