During the summer transfer window, Southampton were repeatedly linked with a move for Luciano Vietto.

There was insistence that Southampton, as well as a good number of clubs in Spain’s top flight, were interested in the Argentine forward.

Atletico Madrid at that stage were said to see Vietto as surplus to requirements, and looking at an exit ahead of welcoming Diego Costa and Vitolo to selection connection in January.

No move came around, but Marca say Vietto’s future is still under doubt, and a January exit very possible.

Vietto is one of a number of players being lined up for a potential winter exit, which gives Southampton an opportunity to revive their interest if it was as serious as insisted in Spain.

Once again, the better route for Southampton, should they sign Vietto, would certainly be a loan to test the player in England before committing too much in a permanent transfer.
