Usually the few days following a transfer deadline bring about news of failed transfers, some of which went completely under the radar anyway. Lack of time, and, more often than not, a lack of money, always sees deals collapse as the summer window closes, and most of those end up creeping out via the press.
Less frequent are signings that remain ‘secret’, so rumours about a club signing a player which only come out after the window has closed.
Oliver Sarkic and Leeds United looks to be one of those. The 20 year old Montenegrin was born in London, bypassing the need for a work permit, and is owned by Benfica.
Usually, the Portuguese club would make a song and dance out of loaning a youngster to an English side, but there’s been hardly any mention of Sarkic to Leeds United.
Over the weekend, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reported that Sarkic had been sent to Leeds United on loan, but they said there was no confirmation from the club yet. It was stated that as the window closed, Sarkic to Leeds was done, but Benfica haven’t got around to announcing it yet.
O Jogo explain Sarkic will join Leeds United’s U23 side, and they say the duration of the Elland Road loan is unknown.
Sabado in Portugal also had it on their live deadline day blog, at just after 7pm.
