Player in ‘race against time’ to sign for Everton: Terms agreed, can travel, needs paperwork

To be honest, Nikola Vlasic to Everton was all looking a little too simple for a Croatian transfer.

More often than not these things drag on for weeks, months, as arguments are settled about who is due what, and clauses in contracts are tested legally.

There are many stakeholders in the future of young Croatian footballers, and it’s often not just a case of agreeing a fee with a club.

It was reported in Croatia on Wednesday morning that a fee with Everton had been agreed, somewhere between €8-10m depending on which claim one chooses to believe, and it would be split 70/30.

The larger share of the Everton fee was to go to Hajduk Split, and the 30% to Vlasic’s family.

Croatia’s Index report there are more problems. Vlasic’s contract with Hajduk has had a whole series of annexes added to it over the years, with some claims the player’s family and representatives are due more, and some that they’re due less.

All that can potentially be sorted out after the move to Everton, but what can’t is a work permit. It’s reported Vlasic is now in a ‘race against time’ to get that paperwork, because that’s all he now needs to travel to Liverpool.
