Former Ternana forward Felipe Avenatti has signed for Bologna, confirm reports in Italy. The attacker has been without a club after his contract with Ternana expired earlier this summer.

TMW report Avenatti has signed for Bologna, but the Serie A side only offered the forward a one year deal. The attacker has been without a club after his contract with Ternana expired earlier this summer.

With concerns over his fitness, Bologna didn’t want to risk giving the player a long term contract. Avenatti will have to now prove to the Italian club over the next 12 months he’s over his injury problems, in order to get an extension to his current deal.

Leeds United made an approach for Avenatti last summer, and not for the first time they failed in their attempt to sign him.

The Championship side continued to be linked with the player throughout last season, but with the changes at Leeds United it was perhaps unlikely they would look to sign the South American this summer.

The new owners and coaching staff identified other targets for Leeds United in this transfer window, and have already brought in reinforcements to the club.

If Massimo Cellino had stayed at Leeds United, it may have been a happier ending for Avenatti.
