Leeds United forward Chris Wood believes New Zealand can turn some heads during this summer’s Confederations Cup. The tournament begins later this month in Russia as part of the warm up to next year’s World Cup.
The Leeds United star said New Zealand are ready to prove their doubters wrong after being written off. Wood believes they are well equipped going into the competition, and are ready to surprise people.
“That doesn’t bother us one bit [if people don’t expect much from us]. People write us off. They can say what they want to say about us but the boys in here and the staff know that we are a good team and we will turn some heads at this tournament,” said Wood.
Wood will be hoping to take his form from last season into the tournament after being Leeds United’s standout player. The forward finished the campaign as the Championship’s top scorer, and his goals nearly secured a playoff spot for Garry Monk’s side.
However, his performances for Leeds United have resulted in interest from other clubs, with claims Premier League sides could come in for the New Zealander this summer. It must be noted that, unlike many players before him, Wood hasn’t used the international gathering to voice doubts about his Leeds United future.
