Everything with Sandro has worked way quicker in the media than it likely has done in reality. First it was claimed the Malaga player had agreed personal terms with Sevilla, then it was claimed he’d agreed to join Everton, and then Goodison Park was pushed aside in favour of Atletico Madrid.
Whilst Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban is undoubtedly good news for Everton, it doesn’t suddenly mean Sandro is going there. The rush to make that so, and appear first to claim it, is typical of this particular rumour.
Diario Sur, and others in Spain, suggest that Sandro to Atletico isn’t dead. He could still sign and then not play until January, or, more likely, be loaned back to Malaga.
Something which at one stage seemed so easy and such a good idea, is now a complicated mess. And it surely can’t be just that which has been concerning Sandro.
Alexandre Lacazette would have been the senior option at Atletico, leaving Sandro on the bench, and with Antoine Griezmann now likely staying until at least the end of next season, the whole thing becomes even murkier.
Everton, and others, can provide a clearer solution to what Diario Sur say is Sandro’s ‘dilemma’, but only if they pretty much guarantee a starting place.
It can’t be forgotten that the next season leads up to a World Cup, so every risk has to be balanced in that regard. Sitting on a bench, whether it be Atletico’s after January, or Everton’s, isn’t going to help.
There may be a another way here, which doesn’t involve either of the clubs.
