As Ronald Koeman watched Malaga beat Celta Vigo 3-0 at the weekend, fans of the home side chanted for their hero and pleaded with him to stay beyond the end of the season.
Little did the Malaga faithful know that Koeman was sat in the stands in the vicinity of Sandro’s agent, which inevitably led to multiple reports of Everton holding a strong interest in the player.
Malaga’s hopes of keeping Sandro are considered to be slim, but perhaps not non existent. He has a chance of becoming the leading Spanish goalscorer in La Liga this season, which could fire Sandro into the Spain squad.
With the World Cup on the horizon the 21 year old may well fee he’s best staying where he is for another campaign, and perhaps not jumping at one of a number of clubs happy to pay his €6m clause.
Koeman is likely to have Sandro watched away to Real Sociedad at the weekend and then at home to Real Madrid. Celta Vigo were fielding a much weakened team ahead of the second leg of their Europa League semi-final.
