Sunderland midfielder Callum Styles is set to be a part of Euro 2024 with Hungary, after being announced in their squad for the tournament.
That’s according to Valogatott, who released Hungary’s squad selection today and how manager Marco Rossi has gone for ‘experience and cohesion’ in his 26-man group.
“When compiling the squad, in addition to the performance of the players, we also considered all other aspects, including who was part of the 2023 qualifying series, in which we won participation in the European Championship,” Rossi told MLSZ.hu.
“In addition, we did not see an outstanding performance from any new player, so calling up a new member of the squad was not justified for that reason either.”
His last appearances came in the last international break, with a 29-minute appearance in the 1-0 win over Türkiye and an 84-minute display in the 2-0 win over Kosovo.
His future on the international stage is set, particularly when it comes to the coming months, yet it remains to be seen what happens at Sunderland.
He joined them on loan from Barnsley in the January transfer window and has made 12 appearances since, establishing himself as a regular.
Sunderland have an option to make the move permanent, but that decision has not yet been made, presumably because they’re yet to determine who will be their next manager.
Perhaps when that’s done Styles’ future will be decided but in the short-term, he’ll be at Euro 2024 with Hungary, giving Black Cats fans some skin in the game at this summer’s tournament in Germany.
