Newcastle United are today again named as a potential destination for Ousmane Diomande.

As Portuguese newspaper A Bola features a story about Sporting’s latest market moves, the Ivorian defender is back being named as one of the players who could leave the club in the summer.

It’s now said that Newcastle are still ‘very interested’ in Diomande, and even though he’s protected by a €80m release clause, it’s ‘admitted’ that he could be sold for €50-60m.

Sporting would like to get that money, add to the Champions League qualification bonus and become calmer about their financial situation, besides having money to invest in signings.

As previously pointed out at Sport Witness, it must be said that Diomande is not having his best form at the Lions, having ups and downs in 2024 which led the club to choose him to go this summer.

Since Sporting are feeling more secure with Gonçalo Inácio in defence, it’s the Ivorian who’s chosen to go, and A Bola again makes that clear today.

Newcastle have been linked to the player for a while, but with no reports about a bid yet, we’ll see if the constant mentions of the Magpies isn’t some wishful thinking from the Portuguese media and his club.
