Andreas Cornelius was a disaster of a signing for Cardiff City. The move, which cost the Welsh club around £8m, didn’t come close to working out and Cornelius was soon sent back to Copenhagen at a huge, but undisclosed, loss for Cardiff.
So off he went back to Denmark in January 2014.
Cornelius went about putting his Cardiff nightmare behind him, got his head down, rebuilt his confidence, and slowly started to return to his best form. That’s worked so well for the now 24 year old that’s he’s set to join Serie A side Atalanta in the summer, a deal already agreed and announced.
Danish newspaper BT say Atalanta will pay FC Copenhagen €3.5m for the transfer, which is likely higher than what Cardiff City got back.
It’s a dream scenario for the footballer, who many had written off during his time with Cardiff.
