Back in January, we covered an article in Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that both Southampton and Tottenham were interested in Sassuolo’s Lorenzo Pellegrini.

The 20-year-old has been impressing in Serie A this season, and it was said both Mauricio Pochettino and Claude Puel were keen on bringing the youngster to the Premier League in the winter transfer window.

However, Sassuolo’s stance was that of no sale, with the Serie A club keen to retain all their best players until the end of the season.

With that now on the horizon, things are very likely to change.

Corriere dello Sport on Sunday reported that Roma are intent on triggering the €10 buy-back clause in the player’s contract, but the plan isn’t to keep him.

The arrival of Franck Kessiè from Atalanta in the upcoming transfer window means Pellegrini’s time on the field would be limited, and with quite a few clubs interested, Luciano Spalletti’s side would be looking to make a profit on their young midfielder.

Explaining a €30m sale is achievable in the summer, Corriere dello Sport seem to think a stay in Italy is the probable outcome, with both Milans and Juventus hovering.

However, with Pellegrini on the transfer list, Tottenham and Southampton links are bound to reemerge  in the near future, and if they do, now you’ll know why.
