Over the weekend, we were treated with a transfer story in the English media sending Tottenham star Christian Eriksen to Barcelona in the summer.
The Danish playmaker once again caught the eye with an absurd performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday, assisting teammate Dele Alli with a delightful early cross to make it 2-2.
With 11 goals and 20 assists to his name in all competitions this season, the 25-year-old is enjoying one of his best seasons in a Tottenham shirt, and the Danish media are getting a bit excited about it all.
While the English story didn’t include any prices, their Danish counterparts seem to think Tottenham would not sell for less than £57m, but with a contract keeping him at White Hart Lane until 2020, that figure could match Gareth Bale’s sale to Real Madrid (around £85m).
Ekstrabladet explain that only two clubs could convince Eriksen to leave London, and those are Barcelona and Real Madrid.
While the latter aren’t exactly in need of a playmaker, Luis Enrique’s side are having to think about the post-Iniesta era, with the 32-year-old finally showing signs of ageing this season.
There is a strong sense the Danes would want to see this transfer happen, but they also understand the appeal of staying in London at a club on the rise, which, with the right additions, could win the Premier League in 2018 if their current trajectory continues.
Dreaming about it is one thing, but there are many factors to consider before this transfer were to ever happen, including Daniel Levy, who will make it incredibly difficult for any club.
