Every week a handful of English clubs watch Benfica, seeing the talent available for future transfer windows. Leicester City aren’t usually one of them.

This season and last, Leicester haven’t been one of the Benfica regulars, so they must have had a special reason to watch the club beat Maritimo 3-0.

The scouting list is reported by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, and Leicester were joined by clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United. Usually there’s officials present from a good number of top European clubs, but the Easter holidays have shortened the list.

It’s not immediately obvious who Leicester’s target at Benfica could be, although they’ve been linked to Konstantinos Mitroglou in the past. Despite a torrid time at Fulham, Mitroglou has done well with Benfica, but he didn’t put in one of his better performances against Maritimo.

All of Benfica’s best players are protected big buyout clauses, so Craig Shakespeare and Leicester would have to dig deep.
