Once again, Aston Villa had someone watch Benfica in this weekend’s round of Portuguese matches, report A Bola. Villa have had scouts at Benfica several times this season, and any transfer would be ambitious to say the least.

Benfica are going well to win the Portuguese league, and are a club in the Champions League on a regular basis. When players leave Benfica, from their first team, it’s usually for big bucks, and usually to really big clubs.

Aston Villa watched Benfica beat Maritimo 3-0, and there were several good perofrmances. Jonas had a good match, scoring two for Benfica, and he’s one of the very few Benfica players who Villa would have any chance of signing.

Jonas’ release clause of €20m is much lower than most of his teammates, and the striker has a good record. The only problem is he’s 33 years of age.

Another reasonable performance came from Lusiao, a central defender strongly linked with Wolves last summer. But he’s 36.
