Former Everton manager Rafa Benitez is going through a tough time at Celta Vigo.

As the club are currently 18th in La Liga, the risk of ‘relegation in the year of their centenary’ makes him an obvious target for those who want a turnaround there.

Marca have an article explaining that Celta fans have now turned on Benitez by booing him in the last match, as ‘not even his important resume’ could save him.

The good news for the former Everton boss is that the club continue to support him. Even though other coaches were sacked with better numbers, they don’t want to let go of such a ‘strong’ bet just after four months of work.

Still, a radical change in results is expected in the coming weeks, and only leaving the relegation zone by Christmas will ‘avoid drastic decisions’ at the La Liga side.

Marca highlight that Benitez has an ‘exorbitant salary’ at Celta, still likely less than he was on at Everton, so a lot of negotiation would be needed before letting him go.

The coach left Everton in January 2022 and only took charge of the Spanish club last summer. So far, he only has two wins in 16 matches there.
