When it comes to signing youngsters to then develop them and bring them into the first-team, few clubs do it better than Borussia Dortmund.

Seemingly looking to find a new left-back for the future, the Bundesliga side have targeted Barcelona’s Marc Cucurella, who also happens to be a target for Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the 18-year-old defender since the end of December, and with a contract at the Spanish club ending in the summer, the youngster is currently available to talk to other clubs.

 

Still prioritising an extended stay in Catalonia if Barcelona make him an attractive proposal, Cucurella could also decide to look elsewhere, what with Lucas Digne and Jordi Alba currently way ahead of him in the pecking order.

Screen Shot 2017-03-29 at 11.49.33This is why Tottenham, who also have Ben Davies and Danny Rose in the role, might find it hard to compete with Borussia Dortmund, who could offer him some game time next season due to their lack of depth in the role (Raphael Guerreiro being preferred as a central option by Tuchel).

There is still hope for Spurs, but the late arrival of the Germans on the dossier has certainly made things tougher.
