Lugo defender Jordi Calavera has admitted to the Spanish media the club is struggling since the exit of Alfonso Pedraza. The young Spaniard joined Leeds United in the last window, with a view a permanent move in the summer.

Speaking to La Vozde Galicia about Lugo’s recent woes, Calavera said Pedraza was an important player for the team, but his teammates must start producing. The defender believes now Pedraza has joined Leeds United they must focus on the future, and get the best out of those still at the club.

“He was an important player for us, I will not deny it, but I can’t hide either. There are people who can play there and who can do better. We must focus on the players we have. Alfonso is already the past, he is gone and we have the players to achieve our goals,” said the Lugo player.

Since Pedraza signed for Leeds United in January Lugo’s challenge for promotion has diminished. Due to the attacker’s influence Lugo were just two points off the play-off places, but since he left for England they’ve scored just eight goals in as many games.

Leeds United can make Pedraza’s move from his parent club Villarreal permanent in the summer with the condition the Championship side get promotion to the Premier League.

Garry Monk’s team have a good chance of achieving this via the play-offs, with an outside chance they could grab an automatic spot.
