Gazzetta dello Sport is a grand old European newspaper. One of the most respected around, and rightfully so given their history. However, they’ve left us somewhat open-mouthed at their contradicting claims on 24 year old Marcelo Brozovic this weekend.
The Croatian midfielder is repeatedly linked with an Inter Milan exit, another young player who the Italian club look keen to cash in on too early. Rumours have been around since the summer and the feeling has been that so long as a club offer a reasonable fee they can have Brozo.
The Italian newspaper pointed out that Inter are very keen to keep Perisic, but will listen to offers for Brozovic. To be clear, they said: ‘It’s a different speech for Brozovic, deemed no longer necessary, Inter asks 25 million to 30 million for him.’
Fast forward to Sunday and things are very different indeed.
Like, really, really different.
Gazzetta say Brozovic could be the golden goose for Inter, and selling him for €50m would ease the club’s FFP worries.
The player is said to have a €50m release clause in his contract.
€50m? But, but, you said €25m, maybe €30m.
There’s no explanation for the change, other than someone presumably thinking: Mourinho + Man United = Much bigger transfer fee.
If Manchester United are interested perhaps they could throw in Matteo Darmian, and this time value the Italian at, erm, let’s use Gazzetta’s calculator… €30m.
