Former Denmark international Kenneth Perez has questioned Netherlands manager Danny Blind over why he hasn’t selected Everton’s Maarten Stekelenburg. The Everton keeper has been left out by Blind with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur’s Michel Vorm getting the nod ahead of him.
Perez went on to highlight Tottenham’s Vorm because the Dutchman has only been playing in the FA Cup for the North London side.
“It is striking that Stekelenburg is not on the list. Why would it apply to him to play and not the others? He has been injured, yes. Michel Vorm almost never plays, except in the FA Cup and also Cillessen, except in the Copa del Rey. I see no difference with Stekelenburg,” said Perez.
Stekelenburg was injured during Everton’s clash with Liverpool just before Christmas, which ruled him out for three Premier League games. However, since his return the Netherlands international has been on the bench as back-up to Joel Robles.
Blind last month expressed his concerns about Stekelenburg’s position at Everton, but also had the same opinion about Vorm. However, despite his concerns about the Tottenham keeper he’s continued to select him.
Perez spent the majority of his career in Dutch football and is one of a growing number of onlookers to question Blind’s Netherlands selection policies.
