As reported by the Portuguese press last week, Joel Campbell’s situation at Sporting CP is not very good. The player has been struggling to get starts, and due to the club’s lack of interest in keeping him, he should be returning to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger at the end of the season.

Things worse for him over the weekend. Due to his behaviour in Saturday’s away match against Tondela, the player could even be fined.

Campbell only came into the game after 84 minutes, when Sporting were already winning 4-1 and striker Bas Dost had scored a hat-trick.

CapturarThe Arsenal loanee took only three minutes to get booked, and then there was still time for Sporting to win a penalty.

Campbell grabbed the ball to take it, but manager Jorge Jesus gave orders for Bas Dost to be the one to do it.

Bas Dost missed it, and Arsenal owned Campbell was angry about the situation. That’s why he didn’t thank the away fans at the end of the match, and went straight to the dressing room just after the referee’s final whistle.

According to Monday’s edition of Record, Campbell and Jorge Jesus are set to talk today, and the manager will decide if the attacker will just get a scolding or maybe even a fine.

Record also confirm the information given by O Jogo last week, and say that neither Jorge Jesus or president Bruno de Carvalho have any intention of buying Campbell from Arsenal or extending his loan.

Therefore, the player should be returning to Arsenal with a not very good experience in Portugal behind him. The next step will be down to Arsene Wenger.
