This week Massimo Cellino won a court case which has been going on in Italy for almost a quarter of a century. It relates to tax on a grain import, and Cellino’s family have been in a battle with the Italian tax authorities.

With that battle won, the Leeds United owner stated it was the end of a difficult period: “I fought for 25 years, the end of a nightmare.”

Since then the Leeds United owner’s brother Giorgio has added his opinion, quoted by L’Unione Sarda as saying: “They have been 23 years of nightmare for my whole family. 1994 was the worst year ever and if I had an enemy I would not wish them a year Like our ’94. Now after 23 years you know a small part of the truth, that is one that tells the world the innocence of my brothers and myself. But you never know the part of the greater truth, the evil that they were able to do and the consequences of those bad things.”

The process genuinely seems to have been a consuming one for the Leeds United co-owner and his family. The successful end of the case will leave Massimo Cellino freer to move on and progress with his future.

Selling the rest of his Leeds United shares could be a big part of that, with it being reported in Italy at the beginning of this month that Cellino is set to hand over the full reigns to Andrea Radrizzani in the summer.

At the time it was explained that whilst taking over at Brescia remains an option, the sale of the rest of Leeds United isn’t directly dependent on that.
