Unable to convince Mikel Arteta that he could be useful to his plans at Arsenal, Lucas Torreira spent last season on loan at Atlético Madrid before returning to the Emirates and then heading back out, this time to Italy with Fiorentina.

Making his name in Italy prior to his move to the Emirates, there was hope this would be the move that would allow him to get his career back on track, and it appears that’s exactly what is currently going on.

Quickly becoming integral to the Serie A side’s plans, who have an option to buy him for €15m at any time during the loan, the Uruguay international has started the last four games, helping them win two of them against Cagliari and Spezia while losing the other two 1-0 to Lazio and Juventus.

In fact, Fiorentina are so happy with his displays that there is already talk of that clause being activated come the end of the campaign, with Calciomercato reporting as much on Wednesday following what they describe as a ‘brief meeting’ between the player’s agent, Pablo Bentancur, and the Italian club.

While the representative also manages the affairs of other players, such as Nahitan Nandez, the website believes this one was ‘only focused on Torreira’.

During said meeting, there was an expression of ‘mutual satisfaction’ regarding the player’s ‘performance on the pitch, with positive feelings about the redemption’.

That’s why they say it’s ‘very likely’ to see the Arsenal loanee in a Fiorentina shirt for a long time, strongly hinting hat the money will be paid at some point, perhaps once Dusan Vlahovic has been sold when more money will be at the club’s disposal.
