As news that Manchester United are reportedly close to signing Victor Lindelöf has started to circulate around Europe, the player’s agent has once again spoken to the media, but only to calm things down a bit.

José Mourinho’s side have been labeled as the strong favourites for the past week or so, with talk on Tuesday that a deal had been agreed between Manchester United and Benfica to bring the player to Old Trafford in January, and O Jogo treating the transfer as pretty much done on Wednesday, even stating the game tonight against Rio Ave could be his final farewell.

Speaking to Aftonbladet in Victor Lindelöf’s home country of Sweden, Hasan Cetinkaya confirmed that while there was a bid for his client on the table, nothing had been agreed as of yet.

He said: “I will not comment on specific clubs. I can only comment that there is a bid for Benfica on the table, which they can consider. I’ll also be sitting down with Benfica. You have to think things through carefully.

“Victor is young, he’s already playing a big club fighting for titles and they are also in the Champions League. He has a key role in the team. You have to think about what is best for him at present.”

Cetinkaya also admitted that Lindelöf was aware of the bid, and that his client was ‘happy about it as it’s proof that he’s doing very well’.

The agent however refuted claims that he and Lindelöf had already negotiated personal contracts with the unnamed club, emphasising he would sit down with the player after the game against Rio Ave on Wednesday night to ‘go through Victor’s career planning’.

Something is definitely happening at the Estadio de Luz.
