NEC defender Dario Dumic has told the Dutch media he’s ready to make the step up in his career in the next six months. The Bosnia born Dane has been linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent weeks after impressing for NEC.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Dumic said he’d help NEC consolidate their place in the top flight of Dutch football, and then look to move on to bigger things. The NEC defender believes he can improve as player, but highlighted his main asset is still his ability to defend. Dumic went on to compare himself to former Aston Villa star Ron Vlaar because their objective is to be defenders first and keep clean sheets.

“The next six months is important, first help NEC to remain in the Premier League. Then we look further, I think I can distinguish myself, but above all I’m defender. My work is to see off attackers, my goal is to keep a clean sheet. Such types I see little here. Ron Vlaar, Héctor Moreno,” said the NEC star.

Dumic has been getting attention from other clubs this season and, along with Newcastle United, the 24-year-old has been linked with Dutch side Heerenveen. The former Denmark international recently spoke about Newcastle United’s interest, but wouldn’t be drawn into whether he would be exiting NEC to head to England.
