Just yesterday, we covered claims from the Italian media which said Milan are triggering the buying option over Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.
Loaned by the Blues back in January, the 23-year-old has been having some positive months in Italy, which is apparently enough to convince the Rossoneri to spend some cash on his permanent move.
Now as website Milan News today features an interview with former Milan goalkeeper Mario Ielpo, they wanted his opinions on some players in the squad.
One of them was Tomori, with the outlet asking Ielpo if the defender has ‘surprised’ him in his first season at the Serie A side.
“I didn’t know him well, so I must admit that he surprised me positively for his qualities,” Ielpo told Milan News.
Ielpo was also quizzed if he’d trigger the buying clause over Tomori, and he seems to have no doubts about sending Chelsea the money needed, which is €28m.
“Of course I’d redeem him. Then I don’t know if Milan will want to invest those €28m to take him outright, but it must be said that if the Rossoneri don’t redeem Tomori they’ll have to take another central defender. Maybe they spend a few million less, but then you don’t know how the new player will make it. The players are not machines, they are people and every time you move them you don’t know what can happen.”
Tomori has only made 12 appearances for Milan so far, and that seems enough to convince the Serie A giants, or at least those who follow the club.
