Liverpool are eyeing up a potential move for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodríguez as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Reds have ‘followed up’ on the Argentine in case Wijnaldum leaves on a free transfer.
The Dutchman is out of contract at the end of the season, and so far, there has been no indication that he will sign a new deal at Anfield.
At first, it appeared that he was on his way to join Barcelona after their interest last summer, but that has now seemingly died down, with reports in Spain stating that the Catalan giants have decided to focus their efforts elsewhere.
However, should he leave, it appears the Reds are lining up replacements, and Rodríguez is one of them, according to Estadio.
They say that alongside Arsenal, who have also been named as suitors recently, Liverpool have ‘followed up’ on Rodríguez, who would be a ‘more defensive’ option than the Dutchman.
The website doesn’t make it clear what this means, but it’s likely Rodríguez is just one of several players they are looking at ahead of Wijnaldum potentially leaving.
Still, this is the first time they’ve been described as being interested, so this is one to keep an eye on moving forwards.
