Atletico Madrid look on the verge of signing Moussa Dembélé from Lyon, in what appears a great move for the Spanish club and the former Celtic player.
According to Spanish reports, Atletico will be taking the striker on loan for the rest of the season and will then have a €35m purchase option. They don’t have to use that, and it’s a relatively low cost gamble for Diego Simeone’s side.
For Dembélé, it gives him the chance to try his luck in La Liga, after a difficult season with Lyon. The Ligue 1 side will need a replacement, and for a few days Leicester City’s Islam Slimani has been pushed forward as the likeliest candidate.
Out of the picture under Brendan Rodgers, and with a Leicester contract expiring in June, the assumption is that Slimani can be a low cost option for Lyon.
Now, the French club have gone public on the situation, and after confirming talks with Atletico Madrid for their own striker, sporting director Juninho moved on to talking about the Leicester man.
Le Progres quote him as saying: “It is not easy to find a striker who agrees to come and play for 6 months. At the start of the season, I spoke with Slimani and we reached an agreement. He wants to come to us but there is nothing done yet.”
